How to organize your personnel edits & flashcard keys to improve player retention of information & in-game execution.
Our personnel scout system is designed to increase the mental reps your players put in to learning their opponents tendencies. We do this by increasing access to the key information they need to know and creating a process improving retention of that information.
HERE ARE THE STEPS
- Create an entry for your edits labeled by the specific Game and Player
- Upload and save edits for each opposing player on your opponent scout
- Add flashcards to your personnel quizzes for each of those players
- Select game settings and enable access for your players
- Integration & accountability for player use of study materials
CREATING AN ENTRY FOR EDITS
*For this tutorial we are going to assume you've already set up your OPPONENT SCOUTS template and are ready to use it.
STEP 1: Go to the position folder (ex: Bigs) and create an entry using the orange plus button
STEP 2: Use all caps to title the first entry by game number and date (as shown)
STEP 3: Use EDIT CONCEPT DESCRIPTIONS to enter text instructions for your players
STEP 4: Add entries for the player names and game number for that position group (as shown)
You can also save coaching moments directly into any of these entries to give players recorded video walkthroughs of your key talking points.
UPLOAD YOUR PERSONNEL EDITS
STEP 1: Highlight the player entry and hit the black "upload" button (below plus button)
STEP 2: Drag/Drop or click on the white "drop files here" field to upload your player edit
STEP 3: When the edit turns green (100% uploaded) hit the orange "save button on the right
ADD FLASHCARDS TO QUIZZES
*For this tutorial we are going to assume you have already created your flashcard sets for each player and saved them on your computer or cloud storage system for easy access.
STEP 1: Go to the "Quiz" folder for the position group located in PERSONNEL QUIZZES:
STEP 2: Create a TRUE and FALSE entry using the orange button hit "upload" to add files:
STEP 3: Use your computer's file finder to navigate to where you saved your flashcards:
STEP 4: Select the TRUE statement cards for the player & drag/drop them to upload into Luceo:
Use "icon mode" to view cards and select View > Show View Options to increase their size so you can easily read them.
STEP 5: Repeat for all players in the position group then hit "save" button to complete TRUE cards
Do the same thing for adding the FALSE cards to complete the game content.
SELECT GAME SETTINGS
Hit the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the quiz folder, turn on the Memory Games toggle and hit the GAME SETTINGS button and then copy the settings shown in the picture below:
REMEMBER to scroll down the pop-up menu and hit "save".
LASTE STEP: HIT THE GEAR ICON ON THE OPPONENT FOLDER AND TURN OFF THE "HIDDEN" TOGGLE. THEN PRESS "AUTO DL DOWNLOADS"
This will allow your players to see the personnel edits and quizzes on their phone using the ASSIST MOBILE APP. (make sure they've DL'd and logged in)
When you turn OFF access to a opponent folder be sure to hit manually DL videos and then turn on the hidden toggle - this will keep your player's phone's from auto DLing every video in the system and making sure they only see the next opponents stuff.
INTEGRATION & ENFORCEMENT
Now that you've made it you want your players to use it. Here are a few simple ways to help with that.
SEND LINKS TO GROUP TEXT
Inside the ASSIST MOBILE APP there is a share link feature that you can use to share a link to a specific player edits or personnel quiz:
USE QUIZ LEADERBOARDS TO ENGAGE & REWARD ACHIEVEMENT
The leaderboard (seen above-right) shows the top 5 high scorers. Have them share a screenshot of the leaderboard from their phone to the group chat every time someone sets the high score.
Every screenshot of a new leader should motivate the other team members to try and top that score - get them competing to do their homework.
Further boost engagement by creating a reward for the high scorers. Set a deadline, (ex. before live walkthrough) and give the winner's acknowledgement in front of the group.
USE VIEW HISTORY ON VIDEO EDITS TO CREATE ACCOUNTABILITY
The view history button (blue button highlighted below) in LUCEO.APP lets you see who has watched the video, when they watched it and how many times they've done so.
To create accountability tell all players that they need to review the personnel edits before you meet the next day. Make it a mandatory part of pre game preparation. Check the view history to see who has done it and who has not.
The Carrot Approach (recognize achievement)
Call up whoever has studied the most and give them an opportunity to be recognized. Give them a chance to share their thoughts or ask questions first.
The Stick Approach (penalize failure)
Fear of embarrassment is stronger than fear of death. Call out whoever did not study the film. Let everyone know right off the bat that you know whose doing the work and whose skipping steps.
Combine the Carrot/Stick approaches and you will quickly condition behavior to get buy-in.
